Two weeks notice

David put in his two weeks notice today. His last day at Liston's Painting and Wallcovering will be next Friday, Oct. 10.

On Oct. 20, he begins a new job with Finsilver/Friedman, a commercial property management company. In his new role, David will essentially be a handyman, maintaining an office building at Crosswoods in Worthington/Westerville. I am pumped because he'll be learning about HVAC systems and will learn how to do novice level electrical work. Already the home improvement projects are flashing before my eyes...

We are, we think, excited.

No matter how you look at it, change is scary. And this one is no less scary. On our side is that David knows the company pretty well; in fact, it has often crossed paths with Liston's since its properties do need a thorough painting every now and then.

Also on our side is the full benefits package he'll receive, a first for David! And the drive to the office won't be any longer than the commute he's recently had leading a job at a Westerville medical building. Happily, he also won't have to drive down to the other side of Columbus anymore to go into the office or work other painting jobs.

In fact, I am even thinking we should carpool one day a week (or more!). His hours will now be 8–5, so ride sharing is a possibility unlike before when his schedule was 7–3:30 (and mine is 8:15–5:15).

Plus, he'll be working close to me so we can meet up for lunch dates every now and then, which is our best shot of quality time since we live in a babysitter desert.

Best of all, this job has little chance of laying off employees, unlike Liston's which lays off a large number of people each January when business is slow. David, for the most part, was lucky in years past in that regard, but we're always cautious to think we're immune.

All in all, we're excited and anxious about the changes ahead, and a little nervous too. So wish us luck, and we'll keep you posted as to how things turn out. And to my hubby... congrats!!!
